Another Game with a great track of music as well as a great introduction, Gabriel Knight 3 : Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the damned, which takes place in south of France, with a nice 3D engine for the time which gaved a lot of freedom, and great french dub, it was one of my favorite adventure game.
Finally in two weeks I’ll be in the plane at the as at midnight we’ll just have lift off shortly. Today one other thing I really like is Star Wars, I’m not too much in the collectibles and all, but the universe is really something, and so I chose the game X-Wing Alliance, which was an ambitious game as it was a space combat simulator, where you could do a lot more than just fighting, making deliveries, using gun turrets, switching power to boost systems, it was really more than a simple space game, and it was very well done with the music from maestro John Williams.
Today I’ll go with a short article, just another track from Kokia the artist I really liked and which I’m going to see in Concert on April 30th in Tokyo. Enjoy Road to Glory a song from her latest album Real World which was released a few days ago in France.
Another anime which had a strong impact on me is actually the first creation of Hayao Miyazaki released in 1984 and that still very good today, it was after that movie only that Ghibli Studio was eventually formed. In this movie there is an ecological disaster that has rendered most of the land unlivable without a mask, and only small groups and cities survived here and there, it is also an era of war, and with a lot of strange creatures. It is hard to summarize this anime. Just if you never seen it try to see it, and if you like it don’t hesitate to get the manga also done by Miyazaki on over a decade of time, that really takes the story and universe of Nausicaa to an all different level.
Back to game music with this time the music composed by Jack Wall for the third episode of the Myst series, a great adventure series that leave us exploring mysterious worlds that have been written, a lot of magic, that is brought to life by the nice music, I especially like the chorus of this episode.
In The Hall of the Mountain King is another classic track I really like, it is quite short, but since I’ve discovered which is already more than ten years ago, it is just a simple melody that start very slowly and that will go crescendo and quicker and quicker until the end, at somepoint it is almost like you can hear voices exclamations while there is no chorus at all.
Ico, a simple very short name, for a game which really has something that can touch the player. In this game you play a young boy, which has horns, a bad omen in his village and is abandoned in an ancient castle. There you will meet a young girl that was imprisoned and your first act will be to deliver her, and then try to escape together. The story is really simple and in the end the game mainly rely on the fragile young girl and in the end there is very little dialog, it really is you that will be thinking the story, and living it, you really unnoticeably become close to the pair of characters, and that is the magic of this game created by Fumito Ueda.
Time for another J-Pop tune, this one I’ve discovered it by playing a game that will not be known to a lot as it never came out of Japan and is called Osu! Tatakae! Oendan! It eventually came on other country with the name of Elite Beat Agents but the game was not as good, and music tracks and story and graphics were completely changed (unfortunately). So well I did come to hear this song and really liked it as well, so here it is.
I could not talk about anime without talking about Studio Ghibli production, so today is Princess Mononoke, another anime that really striked me, with the amazing story, the ecological message, and the powerful link between music and pictures, it is one of the best anime of all time and a masterpiece of Hayao Miyazaki.
