Although his grand son a few years later, being very proud of his grand father (bringing back peace to Japan) decided to make it a much bigger shrine that had a very high cost at the time of about 45 millions of Yens. In this place we could freely visit the various small temples and places around the the Shrine and get to the tomb itself. One of the place of interest had a dragon on it’s ceilling, what was amazing more than the picture itself is the sound that one monk was making with two batons together, under the tail there sure was sound, but once under the dragon head, the sound became completely different, which was very surprising.

After this first visit we went to the restautant for lunch with a Japanese set of tempura and noodles, which was very nice as it was already late, or early in the afternoon. After this pause we went for two short sight seeing sequences, the first being on the shore of the Chuzenji lake at about 1700m of altitude. Then a few minutes from the lake we could see the Keigon’s fall from a little distance. The falls are very nice and they fall for about 90 meters. We had then a little time to check the souvenirs shop including one of poterie, one specialty of the Tochigi prefecture, before making the long trip back to Tokyo. One point to get to this height is that there are two roads, one to get up with 20 hairpin curves, and one to get down which have 28 hairpin curves, so to make the trip both ways a total of 48 curves to cross with the bus, which was quite impressive on the views we could get.

View the pictures / Voir les photos

Lire en français Today visit of Nikko with an organized tour, departure was at 9am in Tokyo and took the group to the area of Nikko where everything would take place about 150km to the North, in the middle of the mountain.
